I’ve never heard speakers like these. They make my ‘71 Bassman & Granger Plexi sound like they took acid (a simultaneously absurd and very real observation).
The speakers have a bold, slithery tone to them - more scooped than a Fat Jimmy, but they don’t lack warmth. Super smooth, no ice pick screeches, hold together well when pushed. They make me want to rake double stop bends over a P-Funk vamp for 6 hours at a time.
My guess is these probably aren’t the best for true Tweed-aholics or tight bros running a 40-pedal board, but if you like your Blackface / Silverface tones ear-bleeding loud and ringing clean bends out for 30 seconds at a time, these are your jam.
I've had this speaker in a great 5E3 Fender deluxe for years. Sounds amazing in that amp, really compliments the sound in a vintage way. Got another for a Mojotone Blackout 5E3 recently and same thing, sounds amazing. The Mojotone amp is a more refined 5E3, but still like a 5E3. The speaker really keeps and compliments the vintage character. Great speaker.
This speaker is in a lightweight American style Mojo extension cabinet. The head is a custom half power 15W Milkman Dairy Air. The only effect is a SurfyBear Classic v3.0 reverb pedal. Overall, the combination is excellent in an instrumental surf guitar band. The speaker is sensitive to the amount of treble dialed in; on 6 there is some breakup, but on 5 it’s clean and surfy. I use the 50W Jupiter ceramic for higher power gigs and this 25W for lower power ones. The 25W has the tonal spirit of the 50W, with a bit more breakup potential.
4ohm 12 inch low wattage ceramic for an external cab running a tweed champ or a 70s reissue champ depending on my mood. Exactly what I needed for these amps. Sounds killer pushing these amps on 10 and working the volume control to get tones. So deep and warm with the Jupiter speaker. I am getting EXACTLY what I had hoped for and I could not be happier!
I purchased this speaker for a Victoria 5112 amp, a 57 tweed champ clone with a 12-inch speaker. The stock speaker worked great, but it did not deliver the champ tones I was looking for, which was the reason why I purchased the amp. Out of the box, the 12SC speaker added the vintage crunchy tone I have been looking for and at a lower volume. I mostly play at home or mic the amp when I play live. So, this speaker not only sounds great, but it looks vintage and makes the amp significantly lighter when I need to venture out. I highly recommend this speaker if you want that tweed champ tone in a bigger box.
