I'm a big fan of the Jupiter SC series speakers. I also have had the 8SC in a tweed Champ (where it was a tad dark) and in a '78 Vibro-Champ (where it's perfect). I had tried a bunch of speakers in my Clark 5E3 tweed Deluxe. Large magnet ceramics were plenty loud enough but lost the tweed Deluxe signature sound we know and love. I also tried a Weber Signature alnico, but it fell apart too quickly when pushed. After weighing my options, I decided to try the Jupiter 12-SC. Shipping was fast and reasonable (glad Jupiter fixed that problem!). Right out of the box the Jupiter 12-SC sounded better than the speakers I had tried previously. When pushed it compresses and distorts nicely without falling apart. There is ample high end, but the treble register is not distracting or harsh. One thing that surprised me was that the sonic signature could be mistaken for an alnico speaker. The speaker is not fully broken in yet, but I'm noticing further improvements as I continue to play it. All in all, a good purchase!
Using it with a '65 Vibro Champ in a MusicMaster cabinet. Hasn't broken in yet, but so far, so good.
Best sounding speakers made
I have an amp which came with a super-efficient speaker (rated 104dB) which means I couldn’t get it to break up even at super loud volumes. So I needed a less efficient speaker and the Jupiter 12SC appears to meet all the criteria. Great stuff.
