I bought this speaker because of the reviews here extolling the sound in a Vibro Champ amp. What everyone says is true. It’s like ham and eggs. Peanut butter and jelly. This Jupiter compliments the frequencies of a SF Vibro Champ perfectly. It makes the amp sing and growl at the same time on volume 7. It’s an intoxicating blend.
I’ve been playing electric guitars since the 1960s and have owned scores of amps and guitars looking for THAT sound. Menacing yet beautiful at volume levels easy on the ears. If you’ve been chasing that sound, this is it. Get a Champ, put this Jupiter 8” speaker in it and turn it up until the magic happens.
At lower volumes the speaker snaps and pops with authority and articulates finger picking NOW. The playing response is super quick and notes have depth and bloom. Very funky indeed. Tele sounds very much like Prince. Strats sound much thicker and meatier like playing thru a 4x10 Bassman. Some speakers make Strats sound thin and whispy. Not this jupiter. It sings with lots of juicy overtones. But my favorite guitars with this speaker are Gretsch - single coils and Filtertrons. Finger picking Chet Atkins is on a whole different level here. So much bass power, tight mids and smooth highs. All fabulous. But the apex for me is a Gretsch with the Vibro Champ on 7+. Sounds like Pete Townsend on Who’s Next. Very musical yet complex, nasty and just plain fun to play. Love this speaker.
I built a 5F1 tweed Champ clone and used a Jenson alnico which unfortunately didn’t fit correctly, the larger magnet pushed against the power tube. I fashioned a small cork spacer to get by until I could find a decent replacement speaker. I read a lot of reviews and watched YouTube videos and everything pointed to the Jupiter ceramic 8-SC.
Completely satisfied with the choice. Super quality and sounds amazing.
This is my second 8SC purchase and I couldn't be happier. I love little single-ended combos from the '50s and '60s and this 8SC went into a '65 Alamo Capri (2W). Prior 8SC purchase was for a 1950 Princeton (5W). For sound quality and SPL you simply can't beat modern high-efficiency speakers IMO. It's truly amazing how beautiful and expressive these little SE vintage amps can be once they've gotten a little TLC and these Jupiter speakers sound fantastic!
Until the speaker is fully broken-in, no review of sound can possibly be reliable. It's a new speaker being mounted into a vintage amp. Sounds great now, anyway. Wha Great!t I can comment on is the meticulous build, which is genuinely impressive. I've bought innumerable speakers of all kinds, and this is one of few that just looks flawless and impressively assembled. It's also gorgeous -- the paint job is as good as any fine pedal, the graphics are not cheesy as is commonplace on small speakers, and the strong frame and superior parts are obvious everywhere.
great sounding superior quality construction, I recommend Jupiter products to anyone looking to upgrade.
